🧪 What You Need

  • A long cardboard tube or box (a milk carton works well)

Let’s Build It — Step by Step

Step 1. Stand your tube up tall. With an adult’s help, cut a window near the top on one side and another near the bottom on the opposite side.
Step 2. Slide the top mirror inside, tilted at a slanting angle so its shiny face points down toward the window. Tape it firmly in place.
Step 3. Slide the bottom mirror in, tilted the opposite way so it faces up toward the top mirror. Tape it down too.
Step 4. Hold the periscope upright, look into the bottom window — and see what’s happening high above you. You’re seeing around a corner!

Light usually travels in straight lines, so normally you can only see things that are right in front of your eyes. A mirror changes that. When light hits a flat mirror, it bounces off in a new direction — this is called reflection.
