AH-CHOO! Sneezes are loud, sudden, and a little embarrassing. But they’re actually one of your body’s coolest defense moves!
What’s a Sneeze?
A sneeze is your body’s way of blasting out anything that shouldn’t be in your nose — dust, pollen, pepper, germs, or even bright sunlight (yes, really!).
How Fast?
A sneeze travels at about 160 km/h! That’s as fast as a high-speed train. And the spray can shoot 8 meters across a room!
Why You Close Your Eyes
Have you ever tried to keep your eyes open when you sneeze? It’s almost impossible! Your brain automatically shuts them. Scientists aren’t 100% sure why, but it might be a protective reflex.
Fun Sneeze Facts
☀️ About 1 in 3 people sneeze when they look at a bright light. It’s called the “photic sneeze reflex.”
💤 You can’t sneeze while you’re asleep — the nerves that cause sneezing rest with you.
📚 The world record for the longest sneezing fit is 976 days!
Next time you sneeze, say “thanks, body!” — it’s looking out for you. 💖
