The Stars Aren’t Twinkling — Air Is!
Stars are so far away that their light reaches Earth in tiny pencil-thin streams. To reach your eye, this stream of light has to pass through Earth’s atmosphere — that’s about 100 km of air.
Earth’s atmosphere isn’t perfectly still. It has:
