Most animals have one heart. Humans have one. Cats have one. Even big animals like elephants and whales have just one heart. But octopuses? They have THREE! Why?
What Do Three Hearts Do?
π« Heart 1: Pumps blood through the body (just like ours).
π« Hearts 2 & 3: Pump blood through the gills, where the octopus picks up oxygen from water.
Their lungs are called gills, and the special blood needs extra power to flow through them.
Blue Blood, Not Red!
Even crazier β octopus blood is blue, not red. That’s because they use a copper-based chemical to carry oxygen, while humans use iron (which is red).
Quick Octopus Facts
π§ They have 9 brains! One main brain and 8 smaller ones β one in each arm.
π¨ They can change color and texture in less than a second to hide.
πͺ They can squeeze through any hole bigger than their beak.
Octopuses are like aliens that live in our oceans. So cool!
