What You’ll Need
🫘 Dried beans (any kind — pinto, kidney, black, lima)
🧻 Paper towels
🛍️ A clear plastic zip-bag
💧 Water
📌 Tape
How to Do It
1. Soak 4–5 beans in water overnight.
2. Wet a paper towel — damp, not dripping.
3. Fold it and place inside the zip-bag.
4. Place the beans on the paper towel inside the bag, spaced apart.
5. Seal the bag (leave a small air gap).
6. Tape it to a window with lots of light.
7. Watch every day! Within 2–3 days, you’ll see roots. By day 5–7, you’ll have full mini plants!
What’s Happening?
Inside every seed is a tiny baby plant called an embryo. It’s been waiting — sometimes for years — for the right conditions: water, warmth, and air.
When water reaches the seed:
1️⃣ The seed soaks it up and swells
2️⃣ The embryo activates and starts to grow
3️⃣ The seed splits open — the root pokes out first (always grows DOWN)
4️⃣ The shoot grows next (always grows UP)

🔄 Flip a bean’s position — root now points up. Does it adjust? (Yes! Plants always know which way is down.)
🌑 Put one bag in a dark closet — does the bean still grow? (Yes — it doesn’t need light to sprout. But it needs light to become green!)
